How to Convert Squares to Bundles
A roofing square is 100 square feet of roof surface. Shingles are sold in bundles, and the number of bundles per square depends on the product. Most 3-tab shingles cover about 33.3 sq ft per bundle (three bundles per square); architectural shingles typically cover a little less, so you need slightly more.

1,845 ÷ 32.3 = 57.1 → 58 bundles
Worked Example
A roof with 26.4 squares (2,640 sq ft) and a 10% waste factor gives 29.04 adjusted squares. At 32.3 sq ft per bundle that is 2,904 ÷ 32.3 = 89.9, so order 90 bundles. Always round up — partially used bundles cannot be returned in most cases.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many bundles of shingles are in a square?
Three bundles per square is the standard for 3-tab shingles (33.3 sq ft per bundle). Architectural shingles usually need 3 bundles per square as well, but slightly more for heavy designer products — check the package label.
Do I need to add waste to my bundle count?
Yes. Cutting around valleys, hips, ridges and rake edges always wastes material. 10% covers a simple gable roof; 15% is safer for cut-up roofs. See the Roof Waste Calculator for a recommendation by roof type.
Should I round bundles up or down?
Always round up. Running short mid-install means a second delivery, and dye lots can differ between production runs.
