How to Calculate Shingle Bundles

Shingles are sold by the bundle. A common configuration is 3 bundles per roofing square (about 33.3 sq ft of coverage per bundle), but coverage varies by product — always check the manufacturer specification and adjust the coverage input above.

Formula

Adjusted Area = Roof Area × (1 + Waste %)
Adjusted Squares = Adjusted Area ÷ 100
Bundles = Adjusted Squares × (100 ÷ Coverage per Bundle), rounded up

Worked Example

A 1,677 sq ft roof with 10% waste: adjusted area = 1,845 sq ft = 18.4 squares. At 33.3 sq ft per bundle: 18.4 × 3 = 55.3 → order 56 bundles.
